6 + 1 Writing Traits Podcast

Fifth Grade students at Willow Dale Elementary School in Omaha, Nebraska have been podcasting for over a year. Recently they produced a program about Writing Traits that really delivers instruction at our students' level. Plus, the program helps teachers understand each trait a little better too. I recently burnt this podcast episode to a cd and then asked a substitute teacher to play it for my students before they began a writing assignment. Some of the humor is "very fifth grade-ish" but the skits and jingles stick in your heads.

Bit by Bit Podcast

Give Bob Sprankle's "Bit by Bit" podcast a listen.

This show features a talk by high school reading coach Kevin Perks about the importance of explicitly teaching strategies for reading Informational Texts.

Mr. Sprankle is a great example of an educator sharing great resources with colleagues like us across the globe.

Reading AtoZ question

We had a few teachers who have seen this site - it is rather expensive but I think offers a ton of leveled reading material and language arts support -Any thoughts on people who may have had their own subscription? Is it/ was it as good as it seems? Worth getting a school wide subscription?

So many of us in this district are doing great things with our student and technology. Let's get organized and use this space as a clearinghouse for asking questions, sharing resources, and bouncing ideas off of one another. Team members may create postings of their thoughts and leave comments for others.
